How it works
- Enter the amount.
- Pick the from/to currencies — or hit the ⇄ swap button.
- Rates load live; the result updates as you type. Check the "updated" timestamp below.
Rates are mid-market estimates for reference. Banks, cards and exchanges add their own margins — expect a slightly different rate at checkout.
Worked example
If 1 USD = 0.92 EUR, then $250 → €230. The converter does this for all 26 currencies through USD as the base: amount ÷ from-rate × to-rate.
The math behind it
All rates are quoted against USD. Conversion = amount ÷ rate[from] × rate[to]. This is the mid-market rate — the midpoint between buy and sell prices, and the fairest reference point.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the rate you see online is what your bank gives you — it adds a margin.
- Forgetting foreign transaction fees (often 1–3% on cards).
- Converting twice (home currency → USD → local) when a direct pair exists.
- Using airport kiosks — consistently the worst rates available.
